Six University of California faculty are among 181 scholars, artists and scientists who have been named Guggenheim fellows for 2012. This is the 88th annual competition for fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. They include:
- Teresa Caldeira, professor of city and regional planning, UC Berkeley: Graffiti, tagging, skateboarding, motorcycling: new urban practices and configurations of public space in São Paulo
- Andrea K. Henderson, professor of English, UC Irvine: Algebraic Art
- John Jota Leaños, assistant professor of social documentation, UC Santa Cruz: film-video
- Laure Murat, associate professor of French and Francophone studies, UCLA: Women as symptoms, or madness at work
- Eileen Myles, professor emeritus of writing, UC San Diego: "Afterglow" (a memoir)
- James E. Rauch, professor of economics, UC San Diego: Jadedness and professionalism in NGOs
UC faculty have received more than 1,490 Guggenheim fellowships.
