Five University of California medical centers received grades of "A" or "B" from the Leapfrog Group's Hospital Safety Score ratings. The Hospital Safety Score is calculated using publicly available data on patient injuries, medical and medication errors, and infections.
Receiving a grade of "A" are UC Irvine Medical Center; Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center; UC San Diego Health System; and UCSF Medical Center. UC Davis Medical Center received a grade of "B."
The expert panel that guided the compilation of the scoring system includes Patrick Romano of UC Davis and Robert Wachter of UCSF.
