Gov. Brown's open letter on voting

As a college student you can help decide the future of California by voting on Nov. 6. But the first step is to register as a California voter before the deadline on Monday, Oct. 22.

Registering to vote has never been easier. For the first time, Californians can register to vote online: www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_vr.htm.

Critical choices will be made at this election. California voters will directly decide issues affecting college tuition and education funding, the state budget process, punishment for crimes, and food labeling rules. And the candidates chosen will shape the policies of our state for years to come.

You are eligible to vote in California if you are:

  • A United States citizen,
  • A resident of California,
  • 18 years of age or older on Election Day,
  • Not currently serving any part of a felony sentence (see the Secretary of State's website for more information).
  • Not found by a court to be mentally incompetent.

If you have moved from your previous address, or changed your name, you should register again: www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_vr.htm

The power is in your hands — don't miss the opportunity to make your voice heard.

Register before the deadline, Monday, Oct. 22.

Then vote on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

With respect,

Governor Jerry Brown
