The 2001 Francis A. Sooy Endowed Lecture will be held Saturday, June 9, and is sponsored by the University of California San Francisco Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. Guest speaker will be Charles D. Bluestone, MD, professor of otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
The lecture is open to the public and begins at 8 am Toland Hall, U-143 at 533 Parnassus Avenue. Bluestone's presentation will be on the subjects: "Born Too Soon: The Impact of Ear Nose and Throat Diseases on Children" and "Indications for Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy." A continental breakfast will be served at 7:45 am.
The 2001 Francis A. Sooy Program also honors three graduating chief residents: Michael Catten, MD, Jacob Johnson, MD, and Nathan Monhian, MD.
The Sooy Lectureship is an endowed program in the UCSF Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, to honor the memory of Francis A. Sooy, MD. Sooy was chairman of the UCSF Department of Otolaryngology from 1958 to 1972. He served as UCSF's fourth chancellor from 1972 to 1982, and was a professor in the UCSF Department of Otolaryngology until his death in 1986.
