A 1979 alumna of Hastings College of the Law, Valerie Fontaine is a partner with Seltzer Fontaine Beckwith, a legal search consulting firm with offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles that places attorneys in all specialties; counsels on career development strategies, resume drafting, and interviewing skills; facilitates mergers, acquisitions, and expansions; and consults on diversity issues and other trends in the profession. Fontaine has written extensively on the legal search profession in the legal press.

BACKGROUND: In a slow economy, attorneys are finding they must work harder to achieve career goals. Individual attorneys need to take stock of their current situation and determine how to use this downtime to best prepare for the future. Fontaine will outline specific steps attorneys can take to position yourself to advance their careers once the economy turns around.
