agricultural biotechnology and biopesticide science, she

COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY OFFICIALS MEET ON TRANSFER PROCESS
* March 7, Thursday -- District chancellors, presidents and
faculty members from California community colleges and
representatives of the University of California and its Davis
campus will discuss ways to improve the process by which
community college students transfer to the university.
"Partners in Higher Education," the 12th UC Davis/community
college symposium, will feature panel discussions on UC Davis
transfer initiatives and creating a community college
transfer culture. State Sen. Richard Alarcon (D-San
Fernando), who chairs the Senate Select Committee on College
and University Admissions and Outreach, will discuss
collaborative efforts to enhance the transfer process in a

LAW CONFERENCE EXPLORES AGRICULTURE AND ENVIRONMENT
*March 8, Friday -- Mark Rey, undersecretary for natural
resources and environment with the U.S. Department of
Agriculture, will deliver the keynote address at a UC Davis
conference on "Agriculture and the Environment: Building a
Sustainable and Healthy Future." Three panel discussions will
focus on the competing water needs of agriculture and the
environment (10 a.m.), agriculture and environmental justice
(12:30 p.m.), and water quality and agriculture (2:35 p.m.).
The daylong conference, organized by the Environmental Law
Society at the School of Law, will begin at 9 a.m. in the
Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center; Rey will speak at 9:30

HEAD OF SOLID WASTE BUSINESS TO SPEAK
* March 12, Tuesday -- Ron Mittelstaedt, president, chief
executive officer and chair of Waste Connections, will
discuss what is one of the Sacramento region's most
successful start-ups in a presentation in Sacramento. Formed
in 1997 and headquartered in Folsom, Waste Connections
provides solid waste collection, transfer, disposal and
recycling services in secondary markets throughout the
western United State, Tennessee and Mississippi. Mittelstaedt
will address members of the management school's Business
Partners program. The meeting starts at 7:30 a.m. at the
Vizcaya Pavilion, 2019 21st St., Sacramento; Mittelstaedt
