An exhibit on national tour of images that chronicle the events of Sept. 11 will be on display at UCLA September 15–20.
“9.11.01: The Day That Changed the World features a collection of some 140 compelling photographs by photojournalists who covered the tragic events of Sept. 11 in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.
Presented by UCLA’s College of Letters and Science and Northern Trust Corp., the exhibit, compiled by the online photo agency NewsCom, creates a moving tribute to those who lost their lives, and celebrates the dedication of the everyday heroes who courageously participated in the rescue and recovery efforts.
The exhibit is free, and will be displayed in the Grand Salon of Kerckhoff Hall near the center of the UCLA campus. Enter the campus from Westwood Boulevard. Parking at UCLA costs $7.
Viewing hours at UCLA are:
· 1–5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 15.
· 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, Sept. 16, through Thursday, Sept. 19.
· 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20.
“This special collection is tastefully done, considering the heart-rending subject it portrays, said Donald J. Berghoff, president of Northern Trust, Los Angeles Region. “In one sense, this exhibit is a memorial, which allows people to reconcile the events of September 11 as they choose. We expect viewing it will be an emotional experience for many people, in the same way it would be visiting the Holocaust Museum or the Vietnam Memorial.
The traveling exhibit is being featured at universities, museums, firehouses, schools, police stations and select Northern Trust locations across the country throughout 2002.
A memorial book will be available at the exhibit for guests to sign and express their thoughts. The book will be presented to the New York City Fire Museum at the conclusion of the tour.
As part of its commitment to aid in recovery from the Sept. 11 disaster, Northern Trust Corp., a personal financial services company, has donated more than $800,000 to the September 11th Fund, a joint project of United Way of New York City and The New York Community Trust. The donation included money contributed by Northern Trust employees and a matching amount by the company.
