UCLA Alumnus Also Will Serve as Executive Director, UCI Alumni Association
Irvine, Calif., Nov. 18, 2002 -- Jorge E. Ancona, associate executive director of the UCLA Alumni Association, has been named assistant vice chancellor, alumni relations, and executive director, UC Irvine Alumni Association, effective Dec. 16.
"Jorge's wide-ranging experience in alumni relations will be invaluable in UCI's efforts to invigorate our alumni program. He has vast knowledge of the UC system and best practices nationwide, and we are excited to have Jorge join our leadership team," said Thomas J. Mitchell, vice chancellor for university advancement.
"The leadership of Chancellor Ralph Cicerone to grow the campus without compromising excellence speaks to his commitment of ensuring that UCI continues to rise in the ranks of the nation's top research universities," Ancona said. "During this time of tremendous growth, I am excited about the opportunity to engage alumni in the life of the campus. The potential and promise of what UCI is becoming will make alumni proud."
At UCLA, Ancona oversees business management and strategic planning for the alumni association, including board development, volunteer relations, organizational management, human resources and finance. He manages an annual budget of more than $6 million.
After earning his bachelor's in economics and Latin American studies from UCLA in 1993, he served in numerous capacities at UCLA, including admissions adviser, student recruitment program manager, and director of student programs and senior marketing manager for the UCLA Alumni Association.
Carl Fields '73, president of the UCI Alumni Association board of directors, said: "We're excited to have Jorge assume this new position and help our alumni association become one of the best in the country. With nearly 75,000 alumni and another 5,000 added each year, it is crucial that our relations with all alumni are vital and expanding. Additionally, we want to deepen our alumni's commitment to UCI. Our vision is to create lifelong, proud, active, informed Anteaters, and we look forward to Jorge's leadership in moving our alumni organization to the next level."

Ancona is a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, the National Association of College & University Business Officers and the American Society of Association Executives. He is the recipient of UCLA Incentive Awards and was named Advisor of the Year in 2001 by the Association of Student Advancement Programs.
