UCSF’s Family Service Network (FSN) is sponsoring the Bayview Youth Summit, an event that will provide a safe space for young people to seek information about, and discuss, health-related topics, with a special emphasis on HIV/AIDS on July 23, 2003. HIV and other sexually transmitted disease testing will be available, along with workshops, entertainment, food, and fun activities for children.

This is FSN’s first youth event in the Bayview, an area that has been deeply impacted by HIV/AIDS. Nationally, people under the age of twenty-five are estimated to make up at least half of all new HIV infections, with young men and women of color—especially African-Americans—most affected. Large numbers of HIV-infected young people have never been tested and are unaware of their health status.

The event, co-sponsored by the Institute for Community Health Outreach (ICHO), is free and open to young people under the age of twenty-four.

The Family Service Network, a project of UCSF funded by the Ryan White CARE Act, provides primary medical care and comprehensive support services to HIV-infected women, youth, and children of color and to their family members.
