Ten Years after Surviving Landmine Blast in Somalia,
Kenneth Rutherford to Discuss His Experience and Work to Ban the Weapon

EVENT: “Landmines and Human Security� will be presented by Kenneth Rutherford, co-founder of the Landmine Survivors Network, one of the leading member organizations in the International Campaign to Ban Landmines. Rutherford lost both legs in 1993 when his vehicle ran over a landmine in southwestern Somalia where he was working as a credit union training officer. Since his accident, he has traveled worldwide to raise awareness and speak out in favor of banning the weapons internationally. In speaking out against landmines, Rutherford has worked alongside such celebrities as Princess Diana, Queen Noor and Heather Mills McCartney. Rutherford, an assistant professor of political science at Southwest Missouri State University, has testified before Congress and published articles in academic and policy journals on the topic. The event is free and open to the public.
