UCLA Anderson appoints Board of Visitors members

UCLA Anderson School of Management Dean Bruce G. Willison announced that the school has named five new members to its key advisory board. Joining the UCLA Anderson Board of Visitors are the following industry leaders:
· David G. Booth, chairman, chief executive officer and chief investment officer, Dimensional Fund Advisors.
· George A. Froley III, CFA, co-founder and chairman, Froley, Revy Investment Co. Inc.
· Stanford Kurland, president and chief operating officer, Countrywide Financial Corp.; chairman and chief executive officer, Countrywide Home Loans Inc.
· Steven Nichols, president and chairman, K•Swiss.
· Julia Stewart, president, chief executive officer and director, IHOP Corp.

“We’re pleased to have these talented leaders join UCLA Anderson’s Board of Visitors,� Willison said. “I and my fellow BOV members look forward to their advice in helping advance the mission of UCLA Anderson School, which is to be a global leader in management education, research and service.

“They also will be beneficial in our outreach efforts to the global business community, as we continue to develop and implement initiatives designed to help our graduates get the most out of their UCLA Anderson experience,� Willison said.

The Board of Visitors of UCLA Anderson School of Management actively assists the dean in the ongoing qualitative growth of the school. Specifically, the board serves as the school’s primary advisory body and supports the dean in establishing and maintaining a favorable climate for private giving to the school. The board consists of more than 60 highly successful executives from around the world who bring a wealth of expertise and experience to the leadership and advancement of management education. Their connections foster myriad opportunities and enriching partnerships between the UCLA Anderson community and key organizations and industries.


New UCLA Anderson Board of Visitors members

David G. Booth, chairman, chief executive officer and chief investment officer of Dimensional Fund Advisors
As the core conceptualist and philosophical leader of Dimensional Fund Advisors, Booth oversees more than $50 billion in assets. His firm, which serves more than 200 corporate, government, college endowment, charitable and union clients, is one of the pioneers of the application of academic research on capital market behavior to the practical world of managing investment portfolios. Booth was one of the pioneers of indexing when he started his career with Wells Fargo and worked on the first index funds with John A. McQuown. He later served as vice president and pension investment consultant at A.G. Becker Inc. (now SEI Inc.). In 1992 Booth won the coveted Graham and Dodd Award of Excellence from the Financial Analysts Journal for an article he co-authored, “Diversification Returns and Asset Management.�

George A. Froley III, CFA, co-founder and chairman, Froley, Revy
Investment Co. Inc.
Froley founded his investment company in 1975 as a specialty manager of convertible securities and today oversees $4.1 billion under management. Earlier in his career, he was an analyst and portfolio manager with the $200 million Harbor Fund, which, at the time, was the largest public portfolio solely dedicated to investments in convertible securities. Froley, a chartered financial analyst and chartered investment counselor, received his M.B.A. from UCLA Anderson School in 1961 and his bachelor’s degree in 1960 from UCLA. He is a member of the Association for Investment Management and Research, the Los Angeles Society of Financial Analysts, the National Association of Petroleum Analysts and the Los Angeles Bond Club.

Stanford Kurland, president and chief operating officer, Countrywide Financial Corp., and chairman and chief executive officer, Countrywide Home Loans Inc.
Kurland is a key executive and director of Countrywide Financial Corp. (NYSE: CFC), a diversified financial services provider and member of the S&P 500. He is also CEO of its main subsidiary, Countrywide Home Loans Inc., a national leader in residential finance. Kurland leads the development and execution of the company’s strategic plans and objectives and directs all corporate and subsidiary operations. He also oversees the company’s asset/liability and investment, hedging and interest-rate risk management activities. He is a certified public accountant and a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association.

Steven Nichols, president and chairman, K•Swiss
Since 1987, Nichols has led K•Swiss (Nasdaq: KSWS), which markets and sells athletic shoes for men, women and children, along with athletic apparel. Its K•Swiss Classic, the all-white, all-weather, all-leather tennis shoe that was introduced in 1966, has evolved from a high-performance shoe into a casual, lifestyle shoe. K•Swiss distributes its products over its Web site and through specialty athletic footwear stores, pro shops, sporting good stores and department stores. From 1979 to 1986, Nichols held various leadership positions at Stride Rite Corp., including president of Stride Rite Footwear and chairman of Stride Rite Retail. He also served as a member of the corporation’s board of directors. Nichols holds a Bachelor of Science degree in banking and finance from New York University.


Julia Stewart, president, chief executive officer and director, IHOP Corp.
A 33-year veteran of the foodservice industry, Stewart is currently directing efforts to revitalize the IHOP (NYSE: IHP) brand and its family restaurant chain, which has 1,167 IHOP restaurants in 48 states and Canada. Through her leadership, IHOP has transitioned to an operations-, marketing- and training-focused company dedicated to becoming No. 1 in family dining. Prior to IHOP, Stewart served as president of the domestic division of Applebee’s International Inc. Earlier in her career, she held several key executive positions with Taco Bell Corp., as well as various key marketing positions with Stuart Anderson’s Black Angus/Cattle Company Restaurants, Burger King Corp. and Carl’s Jr. Restaurants. Named one of the Top 50 Women in foodservice by Nation’s Restaurant News, Stewart serves on the board of Avery Dennison, is past president and founding member of the Women’s Foodservice Forum and executive board member of the California Restaurant Association.
