WHO: Participants in the roundtable will include Robert Dynes, president of the UC system; chancellors Robert Birgeneau of UC Berkeley, France Cordova of UC Riverside, Michael V. Drake of UC Irvine; John Oakley, chair of the UC Academic Senate and a UC Davis professor; Christopher Edley Jr., dean of Boalt Hall, and journalists.
Other symposium panelists will include academics from various UC campuses and from colleges and universities outside of California; UC admissions officials; attorneys and advocates; policy leaders and education researchers. HIGHLIGHTS:
- Proposed admissions policy changes. A briefing paper developed by a group of researchers, academics and campus leaders that recommends significant changes to the UC system's current admissions policy will be presented at a 2:45 p.m. panel discussion and discussed at the 5:30 p.m. Presidents Roundtable.
- Prop. 209 analysis. Christopher Edley has co-authored a legal analysis that provides guidance on what actions officials can take to increase diversity. This analysis will be presented at the 9:45 a.m. panel discussion "Legal Framework of Proposition 209."
