News happens every day at UC Irvine and now there's a newswire to report it.

Starting today, Zot!Wire will serve the on- and off-campus audiences and the media by providing a broad range of news briefs in an easily accessible, bite-size format. Topics will include health and medicine, science and technology, arts and culture, politics and society, students and university news. To see what we're talking about, go to www.zotwire.uci.edu/.

Zot!Wire rounds out a menu of existing Web pages featuring UCI's active campus life. The university's home page, www.uci.edu, will continue to highlight UCI's cutting-edge research, major events and campus personalities. Today@UCI (www.today.uci.edu) will be home to news releases, media advisories, the experts database, faculty and staff profiles, and more. Chancellor Michael V. Drake's messages and initiatives will live on www.chancellor.uci.edu. All pages are maintained by the University Communications office.

"Developing more efficient and timely ways of getting campus news and information to internal and external audiences is a constant challenge," said Susan Menning, assistant vice chancellor of University Communications. "Zot!Wire will enable us to make breaking campus news available to the public and media within minutes."

Other services for media available from University Communications include:

Experts on Video - www.uci.edu/experts. Complementing an online directory of almost 500 faculty news experts, UCI offers an expert video library of faculty discussing topics from immigration and politics to stem cells and global warming.

Broadcast Studio - www.today.uci.edu/broadcast. An on-campus broadcast studio is available for live or taped interviews via a fiber-optic line. The studio features state-of-the-art cameras and equipment, professional camera operation and lighting design, and 24/7 availability.

Radio - UCI maintains on campus an ISDN line for conducting free radio interviews with its faculty and experts. Use of the ISDN line is subject to availability and approval by the university. For arrangements, call 949-824-6922.

To be added to UCI's press release distribution list, please call 949-824-7687.
