The UCLA School Management Program, a UCLA Graduate School of Education & Information Studies center, has succeeded in partnering to secure $15.2 million over four years in High Priority School Grants (HPSG) for 12 public schools.

The management program's school partners were recently approved for the grants, which are administered through the California Department of Education.

The U.S. Department of Education intends that such grants be used to improve student achievement by supporting the implementation of school reforms derived from scientifically based research and effective practices. The grant program is especially focused on helping low-performing, high-poverty schools meet the standards of content and academic achievement set by the state. Participation in the grant process requires schools to work with their districts to develop plans designed to improve student learning and school academic performance.

The UCLA School Management Program, which has worked with public school teachers and school administrators since 1992 in an effort to improve the quality of public education, facilitated the successful writing of the grant applications and will contract for a minimum of $2.5 million to support these schools and their districts in implementing the schoolwide plans over the four-year period.

The schools and their districts are as follows: Oxnard Elementary, Charles White Elementary and Ellen Ochoa Learning Center of the Los Angeles Unified School District; Gauer Elementary, Marshall Elementary and Olive Street Elementary of the Anaheim City School District; Franklin Elementary of the Santa Ana School District; De Anza Elementary, Elwin Elementary, Kenmore Elementary and Sierra Vista Junior High of the Baldwin Park Unified School District; and Huerta Elementary of the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District.
