EVENT:
UC Riverside invites the community to a meeting on the university's plan for a proposed medical school. How will the school benefit Riverside and Inland Southern California? What is the timeline for the school? How will it impact the community? Where will it be located and how many students will attend it? UCR proposes to establish a School of Medicine that will serve the underserved in Inland Southern California. But what does "serve the underserved" mean? Given that UCR Chancellor France Córdova is leaving UCR to become Purdue University's president, will her departure affect plans for the medical school? UCR's Executive Vice Chancellor Ellen Wartella and Vice Provost for Health Affairs Kiki Nocella will provide answers to these questions and others at the community meeting.

BACKGROUND:
In May 2006, UCR proposed to establish a School of Medicine that would serve the medically underserved in Inland Southern California by training a diverse workforce of physicians, with innovations in research, education, and health care delivery that resound throughout the state and nation. In November 2006, the university's preliminary proposal to establish the school received initial approval from the UC Regents. The endorsement authorized UCR to proceed with planning for the school and to submit a full proposal for final approval. The university is preparing the final proposal and has begun a national search for the school's founding dean.
