ATTENTION: Higher education, general assignment reporters and editors

WHAT: Some of California's most innovative community college students will present the results of research they conducted at the University of California, Berkeley this summer. Topics will include the use of fuel excise taxes to combat global warming; the proliferation of online social networking; and, fittingly, how transfer students adjust to UC Berkeley.

Community colleges represented at the event will be Contra Costa College, Chabot College, Diablo Valley College, Pasadena City College, El Camino College, Cerritos College and East Los Angeles College.

DETAILS: The event is part of UC Berkeley's Transfer Alliance Project (TAP), which helps disadvantaged community college students compete for admission to top universities, including UC Berkeley. It is hosted by the campus's Center for Educational Partnership, which oversees TAP. The summer research program is funded by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation.
