A Forum on the California State Budget

President Dynes on the budget town hall

This University of California-sponsored forum convened leading UC specialists with policy makers and community leaders to provide an informed analysis of the state budget crisis and identify options for addressing this challenge.

The forum’s three sessions:

  • Provided an overview of the historical context for the current budget deficit and explain the factors contributing to the severity of the current shortfall.
  • Examined patterns of state revenues and expenditures.
  • Explored revenue, expenditure, and governance reforms that would provide greater stability and reliability to the state’s fiscal system.
  • Reviewed challenges in financing California’s higher education system.
