UC services for Spanish-speaking residents in disaster areas
UC's Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources is providing radio Public Service Announcements, handouts and other materials in Spanish to Mississippi on flood-recovery topics, ranging from family reunification after a natural disaster to making sure the water is safe to use to helping children cope with fear after the disaster. UC has also reached out to Louisiana and Alabama to provide these PSAs to local radio stations. According to La Opinion, more than 250,000 Mexicans and Hondurans live in the three-state area most affected by the hurricane.
