Independent Recommendations on Improvements in
Los Alamos National Laboratory Business Practices

In January, the University of California commissioned an independent review of key business practices at Los Alamos National Laboratory (excluding procurement practices, which were the subject of a separate study published earlier this year). After receiving proposals by consulting firms through a public bid process, UC retained the Government Contract Services Group of Ernst & Young LLP to conduct an independent compliance and operational analysis of the laboratory’s core business processes and internal controls.

After two months of observation and analysis by a team of more than 20 consultants, Ernst & Young LLP has provided UC with seven reports containing approximately 90 observations and recommendations. A summary of key recommendations and links to the full reports (pdf) are provided below:
