Senior advisor added to UC lab management team

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 14, 2003

Bruce B. Darling
Senior Vice President--University Affairs and
Interim Vice President--Laboratory Management

I am very pleased to announce that Robert Kuckuck will join me as senior advisor to the Interim Vice President--Laboratory Management working on laboratory management issues effective today, January 14.

As many of you know, Bob is one of the University's most experienced professionals in this area, having created the Laboratory Administration Office at UCOP in 1992 and led it through 1994. Before that, Bob was an experimental physicist and then a senior manager at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in programs involving Livermore's diverse range of programs: national security, arms control and energy. After his time at UCOP, he returned to Livermore as deputy director for operations. In 2001-02, he went to Washington as acting principal deputy administrator at DOE's National Nuclear Security Administration, where he was responsible for internal operations and major restructuring. Bob returned to Livermore last June to work part-time as special assistant to the Laboratory director.

At this time of intense focus on laboratory issues, I can think of no one with stronger credentials or greater insight and experience into University, laboratory and governmental issues. Please join me in welcoming Bob back to UCOP.
