Proposition 3 - University of California Projects
[ print version ]
The University of California operates five Children's Hospitals that treat seriously ill and injured children in regions across the state. Approximately 20% of Proposition 3 funding – about $39 million for each hospital over the next 10 years – would go to expand and renovate these UC medical facilities, make seismic upgrades and add life-saving medical equipment.
UC Davis Children's Hospital would receive approximately $39 million from the Proposition 3 Children's Hospital bonds. The funds would help provide for the much-needed expansion of critical care services, including a new pediatric intensive care unit, pediatric surgery center and pediatric cancer ward.
University Children's Hospital at University of California Irvine would focus Proposition 3 funds on enhancing high-quality and comprehensive patient care, leading-edge medical research, and continued development of excellent pediatric teaching programs to benefit the children of Orange County and beyond.
Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA would use the funds provided by Proposition 3 to increase our overall numbers of neonatal intensive care, pediatric intensive care and general pediatric beds.
As a regional center for infant special care, UC San Diego Medical Center provides leading edge life-saving care for San Diego's most fragile newborns. Proposition 3 funds will support expansion and enhancement of newborn and neonatal intensive care services, which serve a broad and diverse socio-economic spectrum of patients.
With an increasing number of premature infants in San Diego County, UC San Diego is committed to expanding and enhancing current facilities and technologies to meet the growing demand for specialized services, and provide the best care available in a safe, modern environment.
Future planning options include renovation of current facilities, or the possible construction of a dedicated women's and infants' pavilion with a sophisticated new neonatal intensive care center, which this funding would help support.
Proposition 3 would fund working plans and drawings to construct a new 183-bed Children's Hospital at UCSF Mission Bay. The UCSF Children's Hospital will offer pediatric emergency / urgent care, pediatric primary care and pediatric outpatient specialty services.
