Demographic Changes and Economic Needs

California's population continues to grow rapidly and increase in diversity.

According to a recent report from the Public Policy Institute of California, the state's population could increase from 37 million people in 2005 to between 44 million and 48 million people in 2025. Figures from the State Department of Finance project the increasingly Latino population of California over the coming decades.

California has the youngest population in the country, with much of its future growth to be seen among the school-age group -- which has serious implications for K-12 schools and subsequently our universities as those children go off to college.
