To help think through that question, I have asked a Long-Range Guidance Team to consider what challenges the next 20 years may pose to California and to discuss ways in which the University of California may begin preparing itself to address those challenges. The group is made up of representatives of UC Regents, faculty, staff, and students. These individuals have not been asked to produce a detailed academic or business plan for the University – far from it. Rather, they will give me input on what overarching strategies we need to be thinking about today in order to position UC to make its maximum contribution to California in the year 2025.
We want to solicit the broader views of the UC community and the general public as we explore these questions, and it is for that reason we have created this web site. We have provided a general overview of some of the strategic questions facing the University over the next 20 years. And as the Long-Range Guidance Team explores these issues over the course of the 2005-06 academic year, we will be providing opportunities for input and feedback through webchats, regional visits, email submissions, and other mechanisms that will be coming to this web site.
Thanks for taking an interest in the long-term future of California and what UC can do to help make that future as bright as possible. And please keep returning to this site for updates.
Sincerely,
Robert C. Dynes
President

UC should expand the provision of child care for UC students and employees. This will support educational access and quality patient care at UC hospitals.
