Lisa Bero


Lisa BeroLisa Bero is a Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, School of Pharmacy and Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Bero is a pharmacologist with primary interests in how clinical and basic sciences are translated into clinical practice and health policy. She has developed and validated methods for assessing the quality of research and scientific publication and measures influences of the quality of research, including university-industry relations. Dr. Bero has also conducted analyses to examine the dissemination and policy implications of scientific publications. Dr. Bero has published numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles related to her research as well as co-authored The Cigarette Papers (UC Press, 1996). She serves on several national committees related to technology assessment.

M.R.C. Greenwood


M.R.C. GreenwoodM.R.C. Greenwood is Chancellor of the University of California, Santa Cruz, a position she has held since 1996. As chief executive, Chancellor Greenwood oversees a research university with combined undergraduate and graduate enrollments of over 14,000 matriculated students and an annual total budget of approximately $370 million. Dr. Greenwood also holds a UC Santa Cruz appointment as Professor of Biology. Prior to her UCSC appointments, Chancellor Greenwood served as Dean of Graduate Studies, Vice Provost for Academic Outreach, and Professor of Biology and Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis. From November 1993 to May 1995, Dr. Greenwood held an appointment as Associate Director for Science at the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President of the United States. Dr. Greenwood is the former president and fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science; a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences; a fellow of the California Academy of Sciences; and is on the Board of Directors of the California Healthcare Institute. She is a member of California Governor Gray Davis's Council on Bioscience. In October 2002, Dr. Greenwood testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Science Committee on the topic "Conducting Research During the War on Terrorism: Balancing Openness and Security."

Robert Post


Robert PostRobert Post is Alexander F. and May T. Morrison Professor of Law at UC Berkeley's Boalt Hall. A specialist in the area of First Amendment theory and constitutional jurisprudence, Dr. Post is the author of Constitutional Domains (1995), co-author of Prejudicial Appearances: The Logic of American Antidiscrimination Law (2001), coeditor of Human Rights in Political Transitions: Gettysburg to Bosnia (1999) and Race and Representation: Affirmative Action (1998), and editor of Censorship and Silencing: Practices of Cultural Regulation (1998) and Law and Order of Culture (1991). From 1992 to 1994, he was general counsel of the American Association of University Professors, and he is presently a member of Committee A of the AAUP. Dr. Post is the author of the new draft of UC's systemwide APM 010 on Academic Freedom.

Cynthia Vroom


Cynthia Vroom joined UCOP’s Office of the General Counsel in 1998. She is a member of the Litigation Section, with specialties in employment litigation, student matters and constitutional issues. Before coming to the University she was in private practice in Los Angeles, specializing in intellectual property litigation. Ms. Vroom is a graduate of Stanford Law School. She also has a Ph.D. in French Literature from UCLA, and she has taught law as a visiting professor in France. In September of 2002, Ms. Vroom gave a paper on the USA Patriot Act at an international symposium in France. The paper will be published this summer.
