Across the nation, attention is focused on illegal file sharing occurring on university and college campuses. The University of California respects copyrights and expects members of the university community to uphold copyright law.
The resources provided on this page are available to all UC campus administrators for use in their educational campaigns to teach their community members about copyright law and to advise them of their personal legal liability should they choose to break it.
The Recording Industry Association of America is aggressively targeting university students and employees who illegally download copyrighted music and movie files over the Internet. Copyright holders are issuing infringement notices to universities across the country, targeting specific campus users.
UC student or employees are individually liable to lawsuits directed at them by copyright holders for lost profits. UC is not liable for such infringements on its networks, and cannot protect students or employees from record industry action.
This web site is designed to provide background information and resource materials to assist campuses in communicating this message and in developing educational tools for their use on web sites, on posters and in written materials that could be sent to members of the campus community.
These resources include several posters in PDF format that can be distributed as flyers or posted on bulletin boards and other locations. Some campuses may also want to include smaller ads and cards in newsletters or other materials. The separate art files and sample text can be used to build campus-specific materials that best suit your needs.
