Keeping with the University of California's commitment to accountability, an annual report is provided to the Board of Regents each January on UC's progress toward meeting the goals in the Policy on Sustainable Practices.

Highlights of 2008 achievements:
- Four buildings achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification in 2008, one at the Gold level and three at the Silver level
- Six campuses have submitted at least one LEED for Existing Buildings project to the US Green Building Council for certification
- Annual cost savings from energy efficiency projects implemented since 2004 are projected to reach nearly $12 million
- All campuses significantly improved their waste diversion rates, with seven out of 10 campuses surpassing the goal of diverting at least 50 percent of their waste from being sent to landfills
- More than ten percent of the University’s purchases meet one or more environmentally preferable purchasing standard
