WWII interned students receive degrees
Japanese Americans whose UC educations were interrupted by internment during World War II returned to receive honorary degrees at three campuses in December.

UC Regents voted unanimously in July to award degrees to the approximately 700 students who had to leave the university in 1942 and never received a UC degree. Many of those students, now in their 80s and 90s, returned to UC San Francisco, UC Davis and UC Berkeley for long-overdue graduation ceremonies. In some cases family members received the degrees in honor of former students who have passed away. UCLA will hold its ceremony sometime in the spring.
