Campus climate groups to combat intolerance
UC Regent Chair Russell Gould and President Mark Yudof have created campus climate committees to promote inclusive, tolerant environments on each of the university’s 10 campuses.
The two committees were created in response to incidents of racial and gender intolerance that occurred on some UC campuses in the spring.
Gould appointed Regent Eddie Island to chair the Ad Hoc Committee on Campus Climate. The other committee members are Regents George Kieffer, Bonnie Reiss, Fred Ruiz, Leslie Schilling, Charlene Zettel, Alumni Regent Darek DeFreece, Student Regent Jesse Cheng, Faculty Representative Henry Powell and Staff Advisor Juliann Martinez.
Yudof is appointing a 17-member systemwide advisory council to monitor the progress each campus makes in creating conditions that provide opportunities for all UC students, faculty and staff. Campus councils will report to the president’s Advisory Council on Climate, Culture and Inclusion, which in turn will provide the regents with regular updates.
