Keynote: Central Valley Voices: A Personal Journey of Pride, Purpose & Progress

Time: 11:00 – 11:45 A.M

Join us for an inspiring keynote conversation with two accomplished UC alumni who now lead major public universities in California’s Central Valley. Dr. Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval, President of California State University, Fresno (a triple UC Irvine alum), and Dr. Juan Sánchez Muñoz, Chancellor of UC Merced (a proud graduate of UC Santa Barbara and UCLA), will share their inspiring journeys, explore the power of resilience, and discuss how pride in their UC roots fuels positive change in the Central Valley community. This conversation will be moderated by Derek Sabori, past president of the UC Irvine Alumni Association.

Bobcats Linda Barreto ’08 and Josiah  Beharry ’22 illustrate how turning personal adversity into action has enabled them to craft vital support structures—ranging from pro bono legal clinics to UC Student Regent advocacy and student pipeline programming—that foster belonging, equity, and resilience in Central Valley and UC communities.

Work for California — Your State Career

The Work for California — Your State Career presentation will give you an opportunity to learn about the benefits of California state service, the range of career opportunities with the State of California, and the process for searching and applying for state jobs. We will provide resources and be here to answer your questions. Visit us and learn why you should work for California’s largest employer and make an impact.

High Demand, High Impact: Exploring Healthcare Careers in the San Joaquin Valley

Healthcare hiring in California’s Central Valley shows no signs of slowing down. Join a panel of regional healthcare organization professionals, hiring managers and educators for a conversation focused on the most in-demand roles, emerging career pathways, and how nonprofits and education partners are working together to strengthen the healthcare workforce. Whether you're a seasoned professional or considering a career shift, gain valuable insights on where the opportunities are — and how to prepare for them.

Session 3 - 2:00 P.M.

Journeys to Public Service: Chicanx Latinx Leaders in Action

This panel brings together Chicanx Latinx leaders throughout the state of CA to share their journeys to public service. They will discuss the various jobs, experiences, and skill sets that have led to their current roles. Panelists will also have the opportunity to share the impact and accomplishments their journeys have had on their communities and the various sectors and institutions with which they interact. We will conclude by sharing their consejos and advice to recent alumni.

Level Up: Essential Skills to Stand Out in Today’s Job Market

In a rapidly evolving job market, knowing what employers look for, and how to showcase your strengths, can make all the difference. Join the UC Office of the President’s Talent Team for a practical session focused on building the skills that matter most today. From using AI and technology wisely to standing out in applicant tracking systems (ATS), this workshop will help you sharpen your competitive edge with resilience and purpose.

Alumni from all 10 University of California campuses are invited to our friendly and open networking mixer at a UC alumni-owned winery in Central California.

Alumni volunteers are needed to support our alumni job seekers and alumni associations' staff to make this event successful. Please consider signing up for the following volunteer opportunities at the career summit.

  • Help with set up, decor, and/or clean up

  • Greeter: Assist at registration/nametag tables

  • Workshop Support: Assist greeting and seating participants, other tasks as needed by speaker/staff

  • Campus Alumni Association Table: Greet alumni of your campus at Alumni Association table, answer questions about alumni association resources and offer encouragement

  • General Floater/Alumni Encourager: Greet participants, offer encouragement, directions to workshops, employers, and facilities

  • Networking Pro: Facilitate networking between newer alumni and experienced alumni
