UC and Teamsters collaborate on new multiyear contract for clerical and other administrative staff

University of California officials today (Oct. 3) announced a tentative agreement with the Teamsters Local 2010 union on a new four-year contract for the more than 11,000 clerical employees, library assistants and other administrative staff represented by the Teamsters. Once ratified by union members, the new contract will be effective from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2026.

The new contract addresses key issues including fair compensation, salary progression and affordable health insurance. The four-year term provides stability and predictability for bargaining unit members and the university.

“Our dedicated colleagues play a vital role in UC’s delivery of world-class service to students, patients, faculty, staff and the public at large,” said Letitia Silas, executive director of systemwide labor relations. “We thank the Teamsters for their partnership and collaboration to produce a contract that recognizes these employees' many contributions and their commitment and resilience over the past two and a half years throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Silas added that the agreement reflects UC’s commitment to forging more collegial and collaborative labor-management relations and hopes it will serve as a model for negotiations with other unions.

Highlights of the agreement include:

  • Compensation: The new contract continues UC’s tradition of providing competitive compensation with guaranteed, multiyear pay increases as follows:

    • Annual pay increases: Bargaining unit members will receive annual across-the-board pay increases totaling 15 percent over the life of the four-year contract.

    • Salary progression: The contract includes mechanisms to support employee advancement through the salary range for their classification.

  • Health benefits: In support of employees’ continued access to quality health care in the face of rising costs, employee contributions to monthly health insurance premiums will not exceed $25 per member for the duration of the contract.
