UC Board of Regents chair Sherry Lansing says in a video statement that she is "shocked and appalled" by the images of police actions during recent student protests at UC Berkeley and UC Davis.
Lansing supports UC President Mark Yudof's effort to review systemwide procedures so that students can engage in peaceful protests.
"We regents share your passion and your conviction for the University of California," Lansing says. "We want all of you to know that we fully and unequivocally support your right to protest peacefully."

University of California President Michael V. Drake, M.D., released the following statement today (Oct. 12) on University of California, Berkeley, labor economist and professor of economics David Card, Ph.D., winning the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences on Monday. He was awarded half the prize, with the other half shared by economists Joshua Angrist of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Guido Imbens of Stanford University. Card was honored for his work on social and economic forces that impact low-wage workers, including outcomes of an increased minimum wage and of immigration on job growth in America.

The magazine also placed eight of UC’s undergraduate campuses on its coveted list of the top 100 public and private universities across the country.

The University of California today (July 16) announced the receipt of a $15 million grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for the President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (PPFP). This funding will help expand the number of PPFP fellowships at UC and establish a program for hiring faculty whose research and teaching emphasize diversity and equity in the humanities and humanities-inflected social sciences at the University’s six federally recognized Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI). These include UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Merced, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis.
