University of California President Janet Napolitano said today (Dec. 17) she is honored that President Barack Obama has named her to lead the U.S. delegation to the Opening Ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
“I look forward to being in Sochi to support our Olympic athletes and celebrate their accomplishments,” Napolitano said. “It is an honor to represent our country in the company of individuals who have excelled in life and sport.”
Napolitano led the U.S. delegation to the Closing Ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada.
The Opening Ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympic Games is scheduled for Feb. 7, 2014.
