University of California announces application totals for fall 2023 admission

The University of California today (Feb. 24) announced that it has received a total of 245,768 applications (206,405 for freshman admission and 39,363 applications for transfer admission) for fall 2023 admission. Interest in the University from California students remained strong, with application numbers tracking closely to the levels set in previous years. Additionally, applications from many segments of traditionally underrepresented California freshmen students continued to increase.

By now you have heard about or seen the disgusting and dehumanizing violence shown in the video of Tyre Nichols’ killing, which was released today by Memphis officials.   

I am sickened and outraged by this utterly senseless killing, as we all have been by too many others that have preceded it. It is yet another painful reminder of the constant flow of systemic racism and injustice that communities of color continue to endure.
